What causes ED?

The most frequent cause of ED is poor circulation to the penis, known as atherosclerosis. But other common causes include:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Obesity
  • Tobacco use
  • Certain prescription medications
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Sleep disorders

Treatment for ED

Treatment for ED will depend on the underlying cause. It may include testosterone replacement therapy or medication in addition to lifestyle changes, for example, weight loss, exercise, quitting smoking, and avoiding alcohol.
